The Interview

So, after months of waiting, the time has come.  The inteview has been scheduled for February 25 at 10am. So now I wait 2 more weeks to finally meet members from the Abu Dhabi Education Council.

The only minor issue is that mom, dad, Nancy and Stanley have to be at the airport to fly to Miami for a cruise. So, now, we juggle getting them to the airport and me back to the hotel downtown for the interview that is to begin at 10am.

So with all that figured out, the interview day has arrired. I arrive at the hotel around 9am after taking mom, dad, Nancy and Stanley to the airport. Kelly from Teach Away is there to accept my documents and there is more waiting. I know I am early so I find a chair to relax and "people watch" for the next hour.

While waiting, a guy comes and sits in the chair across from me. We begin talking and he is re-applying to teach in Abu Dhabi. You can visit his blog at www.therands.wordpress.com. As we begin talking, I learn that he is from the little town of Cuthbert, Georgia where my dad grew up and where mom's family lives. So we chat about places (or lack there of) in Cuthbert. He lives a couple of blocks from the house that dad grew up in. We continue talking and he is familiar with Atlanta Christian College and we have some mutual friends. So we discuss that.

Finally, the time has come. Kelly, from Teach Away, comes to tell us that it is time for our interviews. By this time it is 11am. So glad I found someone to talk to. We head up the stairs to the meeting rooms and the interview begins. I met with a male principal from one of the schools in Abu Dhabi and a lady who is part of ADEC. Both were warming and easy to talk to. Questions were asked about my teaching style, what my classroom would look like, my classroom management, how I keep portfolios of student work and how I involve parents. I am completely calm talking to these two. When the interveiw is over, both seem delighted and pleased with my answers. I am told that I will hear from Teach Away about offers within a couple of weeks. SOOOOOOO, the waiting begins!!!! Well, more waiting ;-)
